What mosquito control cannot promise
No yard treatment creates a permanent mosquito-free bubble. Salt marsh mosquitoes fly in from public wetland we do not treat, and a neighbor's untended pool or clogged gutter keeps producing them.
What a properly run program does is drop the resident population sharply and keep treated areas uncomfortable for the ones that wander in. Combine it with removing standing water weekly and you get evenings back — that is the honest outcome.

Does all-natural mosquito spray work as well as chemical fogging?
For yard use, yes — with one difference. Plant-oil formulas kill and repel on contact and keep mosquitoes out of treated vegetation, but they break down faster in sunlight than synthetic pyrethroids. That is why we treat every three weeks in season instead of every six. You get the same usable backyard without residue drifting onto vegetable beds, the bay or pollinator plants.
How bad are mosquitoes on the North Fork?
Bad wherever there is standing water, which out here means creeks, marsh edges, drainage swales, irrigation lines and vineyard puddles. Salt marsh mosquitoes travel miles inland from Flanders Bay and the Sound, and Suffolk County monitors West Nile virus in local mosquito pools every summer. Peak biting runs late June through September, worst at dawn and the hour after sunset.
What can I do myself between treatments?
Dump standing water weekly — a bottle cap is enough for a mosquito to breed in. The usual North Fork culprits are boat covers, kayak hulls, wheelbarrows, birdbaths, clogged gutters, tarps over firewood and saucers under potted tomatoes. Clearing those cuts your local population before we ever spray.
Is the spray safe for bees, my vegetable garden and the bay?
It is applied to habitat rather than open blooms, early in the day when bees are least active, and we skip vegetable rows and buffer down near shorelines and creeks. The active ingredients are plant oils that break down into the soil rather than persisting in runoff, which matters on a peninsula where every yard drains toward water.
Can you treat for a specific date, like a party or a wedding?
